We have now managed to put the last piece of a jigsaw of evening worship in place that means there is a service in the parish every Sunday evening.
There has been demand for this for some time and four new forms of worship for the church in Kirkby have been developed over recent years.
6.30 evening services now follow the following pattern: 1st Sunday: Taizé Worship at St Martin’s 2nd Sunday ‘Heart of Worship’ contemporary praise, alternating between St. Andrew’s and St. Martin’s 3rd Sunday Reflections at St Andrew’s 4th Sunday 1662 Evensong at St Chad’s 5th Sunday Healing Service on rotation
Follows the reflective and musical traditions of the Taizé Community in Burgundy, Southern France. The repeated contemporary chants throughout this half hour service give a peaceful opportunity for prayer. Held in St Martin’s on the first Sunday of every month.
Heart of Worship
A chance to enter into the ‘heart of worship’, using the best of contemporary music. Worship to engage the heart as well as the mind. Alternates between St. Andrew’s & St. Martin’s – 6pm to broaden the ages of those who might attend.
The “Reflections Service”
Provides a fresh take on big themes using multi-media and multi-sensory ideas to get you to think and inspire fresh prayer. Third Sunday of every month at St Andrew’s.
A traditional church building and a traditional form of Evening Prayer from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer is on offer there every fourth Sunday of the month. This is by no means new but it is new to the present generation of churches in Kirkby and was the last piece of the jigsaw we have put in place.
Four times a year there is a fifth Sunday
Each month this happens there will be a service of Wholeness and Healing moving around the four of our churches on a rotational basis.
Our Confirmation Service this year will be on Sunday 5th June, 6.30pm in St Martin’s and will be led by the Bishop of Warrington. Our preparation course for members of all our churches interested in Confirmation (adults and Year 10 or over young people) begins on Sunday 17th April, 6.30pm in The Rectory. Please talk to the clergy if you want to know more.
