Let the children come unto me

The is central of three windows set in the Baptistry. Their combined message is that children are welcome in the household of faith. Baptism, after all, is the rite of entry into the church and in this church it is most often children who are baptised. This one stands immediately behind the font.

It recalls an occasion when Jesus’ disciples tried to protect him from crowds of children. He said:

Let the children come to me and do not stop them for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.

The aged and grey haired disciples can be seen frowning in the background.

This area of the church is also a place where toddlers will play during Sunday morning worship. It continues to speak in a living way to the current congregation.
